Welcome to West Side!
Home of the Tigers !!!

Welcome to the West Side Elementary website! West Side houses grades 3 and 4 with approximately 360 students.  The average class size is 22-23 students.  Students are provided with many different opportunities to grow and learn at their pace.  We strive to ensure success for our students by providing quality instruction and a positive environment that promotes learning.  Our grade 3-4 staff takes great pride in working toward our mission of “…developing the potential of each learner for success in a changing world.” We work to provide your child with the opportunity to grow and to develop for success in today’s world.  We offer a variety of instructional programs to assist each child in his or her learning needs.  We are honored that you have chosen to allow us to work with your child!

The 2015-2016 school year will bring a number of new faces, staff and student, to West Side.  We are excited to be offering an 8th section of Grade 4 this year, bringing us to a total of eight sections of each grade 3 and 4.  This year we will begin our implementation of Standards Based Learning and are excited about the improved communication this will offer related to what each student knows and can do.  Our staff has been working to create a plan that will be the best fit for everyone at West Side.

We will also be offering a Technology class at West Side this year.  Students will attend a full block of technology each week, taught by a full time technology teacher.  This teacher will also be helping classroom teachers integrate technology into their lessons when she is not working with students in her own classroom.  This is another exciting change at West Side that will help us prepare each learner for success in our changing world!

We will continue to offer WIN time, a time built into each day for each student to get "What I Need" in both Reading and Math.  For some students, this will mean additional interventions for success and for other students this will mean added enrichment activities related to the learning targets we are working on.

To be successful in today’s world, all students need to be able to function in an appropriate manner behaviorally and socially.  The primary grades are no exception and provide a sound base for future years.  It is our responsibility to teach and guide students in behavioral conduct and to provide a safe, orderly environment allowing all students to learn. Our Tiger Pride team stresses the importance of Being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible in all areas at West Side.

You are welcome to visit school at any time.  Children love when their parents are able to visit or join them for lunch!   For the safety of our children, we require all visitors to sign in at the main office.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this.

If you have questions, concerns, or needs, please feel free to call, stop by at school, or e-mail me at jeremy.williams@marshall.k12.mn.us.
