WELCOME TO
Marshall Area Technical & Educational Center
"Where opportunity begins."
Hello and thank you for visiting MATEC's website!
MATEC (Marshall Area Technical Education Center) is an alternative high school that supports students in grades 9-12 to meet graduation requirements. While there are a variety of reasons students attend an alternative high school program in the state of Minnesota, most attend due to being behind in credits needed for graduation.
MATEC focuses on supporting students to build back credits they have not earned and helping them on their educational journey towards graduation.
MATEC is part of the Marshall Public School District, in Marshall,MN. We utilize and run a block schedule and offer a variety of core educational classes. We also use an online platform to help students who can work independently at their own pace. While we utilize an online program for this opportunity, students still attend school on site to receive credits.
The programs at MATEC offer opportunities for students to earn credits in a variety of ways. The program is a seat-based program. This means students must attend school daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. and complete class materials and curriculum. Our program offers the opportunity for students who have jobs to earn additional credits through a work experience program. They can help them earn elective credits. Students who are enrolled in the MATEC school year program can also take part in the works experience program in the summer to earn additional elective credits.
As part of an alternative program, we offer a year-round opportunity for education. We host a program for students to work on credits after school. This program, called After Hours, is run in partnership with and held at Marshall High School. After hours runs during the week on Mondays, Tuesdays,Thursdays and Fridays from 3:15 - 5:30. It starts during the second week of the school year and goes through the end of the school year. Another opportunity to gain credits for students is through our summer school program. This runs through the month of June, Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. These programs provide students with more possibilities to gain credits that they are missing for graduation.
