Free School Meals for Kids Bill Signed Into Law
Gov. Tim Walz signed the Free School Meals for Kids bill on Friday, March 17. The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is excited to implement this program for our students in Minnesota. This legislation provides state reimbursement for a free breakfast and lunch to all students at schools participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP). The Free School Meals for Kids Program will start on July 1, 2023.

Taher Foods, Inc. a professional food service management company has been contracted by the Marshall Public Schools to provide a lunch program for all of our school buildings. The program requires that students pre-pay money into a meal account and as they go through the lunch line, the student’s account is properly debited. Middle and High School students have the option of paying cash for their meals as they go through the lunch line.*Please Note: Marshall Public Schools also offers a School Breakfast Program. For an up-to-date statement, details on items purchased or an account history, please click below.ATTENTION:All Food Service transactions and balances can now be viewed on Parent Portal!P-EBT MessageStudents must have been approved for free or reduced-price meals during the 2021-22 school year and enrolled in the last month in a National School Lunch Program participating school.Students who were approved for free or reduced-price meals and enrolled in the last month of the 2021-22 school year in the P-EBT portal will automatically be eligible for summer 2022 P-EBT benefits. Newly eligible students who submit new applications for educational benefits or are directly certified between July 1, 2022 through September 2, 2022, can be added to qualify. School Year 2022-23 Applications for Educational Benefits must be received and date stamped by September 2, 2022.
