This year (2021-22) is my 23rd year teaching High School Social Studies. I teach Advanced Placement European History, World History, U.S. History II, and Current Issues 11/12. I also coach the MHS Speech Team and advise the MHS Honor Society.
I grew up in Marshall and graduated from MHS in 1993. From there, I attended Concordia College in Moorhead and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science in 1997. Later, I received my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2004. After teaching for 8 years at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, MN, my wife Heather and I were thrilled to have the opportunity in 2007 to return to our hometown. We have two children, Julianna 15, and Brooklyn 11. I was honored to receive the Minnesota Center for Academic Excellence Outstanding Teacher Award in 2011. I have served as the President of the Minnesota Speech Coaches Association and was named Minnesota Speech Coach of the Year in 2012.
I love school. I love learning. I love teaching. My goal every day is to inspire my students to learn as much as they can about our amazing and complex world. Awareness and knowledge of the people and world around you is essential in making this world a better place.
