    This year (2018-19) is Mr. Purrington's 20th year teaching High School Social Studies.  Mr. Purrington teaches Advanced Placement European History, World History, Current Issues, and U.S. History.  He also coaches the MHS Speech Team and advises the MHS Honor Society
     
     
    After teaching for 8 years at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, MN, Mr. Purrington and his wife Heather were thrilled to have the opportunity in 2007 to return to their hometown and alma matter, MHS.   A Marshall High School graduate, Mr. Purrington received his B.A. in Political Science and Social Studies Education from Concordia College, Moorhead in 1997.  He later earned his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2004.  The Purrington's have two children, Julianna 11, and Brooklyn 8. Mr. Purrington was awarded the Minnesota Center for Academic Excellence Regional Outstanding Teacher Award in 2010 and again in 2011.  He has served as the President of the Minnesota Speech Coaches Association and was named Minnesota Speech Coach of the Year in 2012.
