It's Administrative Professionals Appreciation Day! We want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for all that our administrative professionals do for our school community. You are often the first point of contact for students, parents, and staff, and your friendly, professional demeanor creates a welcoming and supportive environment. MPS has the best, thank you!

Southview Families, as the school year winds down, we need to start working on collecting our library books. This week, April 22-26, is our last week of checking out four books per students. We are going to lower the number of checkouts by one book each week until the end of the school year. Thank you for your help in returning library books so they will be ready for the next school year!

American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high school students. A participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government. Legion posts select high school juniors to attend the program and sponsor these students to attend Boys State. Congrats to our Boys State representatives, Auggie Sturrock, AJ Runchey-Smalley and Jack Gunn for being selected. Thank you to our American Legion for sponsoring our students!

The Maud Hart Lovelace contest was a success, again, this year! The Media Center ran the reading contest from October to March. All grades participated. We had 100 students who read/participated in the contest, with 59 qualifying for prizes and awards. To qualify, the students must read at least 3 or more MHL books and pass the quizzes. Our upper grades (7 and 8) really rocked it and had very high numbers participating! At the end of the contest, the qualifying kids were able to vote on their favorite which then gets submitted to the MN MHL board. The book with the most votes will be announced at the end of April. A MHL party was held the on Friday, April 12th, in the media center. Hy-Vee graciously donated 60 big donuts. With a donation from the PTA, we were able to buy prizes and juice. AP Designs and the big Dairy Queen also donated items for our contest. We are very thankful for the donations!

Each year, Marshall Education Association (MEA) members nominate other members for Teacher of the Year and Friend of Education. A committee of member-peers select the winners. This year's winners are Gayle Chandler (Teacher of the Year) and Laura Fennell (Friend of Education). Congratulations to you both and to all of the nominees! MEA experienced more nominations this year than any prior year (13 for Teacher of the Year and 9 for Friend of Education)!

The 2nd Grade classrooms would like to thank the Pride in the Tiger Foundation for providing extra sets of syllaboards for our phonics program. Syllaboards are used during our Really Great Reading lessons and help students break words into chunks for reading and spelling. When students use syllaboards, they look for patterns in words that they have learned to help them decode words faster instead of sounding out individual letters. Thank you for your support PITF!
