Students in summer school went to “Tech Time” every day for 30 minutes! Students engaged in “Unplugged Coding” where they learned that they could code even without technology! Students loved the interactive and engaging activities!

Sam Jens with Lyon County 4H, challenged students to code “Edison” so he’d drive around the table. Students used the scientific method to make a hypothesis, experiment through coding their robots, observed Edison’s actions, and then collected data! They had to figure out how long Edison needed to drive along each of the perimeters and how many seconds he needed to turn to make a 90-degree angle. Kids had a blast experimenting and coding Edison differently to make him successful! Younger students continued their work with the Pixicade app. They created a new game this week that included their Avatar, goals, hazards, and solid ground. Students love using their imagination to create their own mini video game. After scanning their picture, they are able to manipulate their Avatar through the hazards, solidi ground, obstacles, and ultimately collect their goals!

Summer school students are back at it again with Sam Jens (Lyon Couty 4H Program)! Students learned how video games were made. The started learning about the Pixicade app. Students learned the different parts of a video game (Avatar, obstacles, collecting “goals”, etc.). Students ultimately created their own mini video game – they drew an Avatar and goals they had to capture to complete the game. Older students were introduced to Block Programming. They had to move “Edison” (the robot) through driving blocks (forward, backward, turning). They also learned about outputs (sounds/music) and how to code those into their programming. Ultimately, students ran their code (what they developed) and got “Edison” to move! Mission Accomplished!
