The 2nd Grade classrooms would like to thank the Pride in the Tiger Foundation for providing extra sets of syllaboards for our phonics program. Syllaboards are used during our Really Great Reading lessons and help students break words into chunks for reading and spelling. When students use syllaboards, they look for patterns in words that they have learned to help them decode words faster instead of sounding out individual letters. Thank you for your support PITF!

Congratulations to this weeks Students of the Week!

Each year, Marshall Education Association (MEA) members nominate other members for Teacher of the Year and Friend of Education. A committee of member-peers select the winners. This year's winners are Gayle Chandler (Teacher of the Year) and Laura Fennell (Friend of Education). Congratulations to you both and to all of the nominees! MEA experienced more nominations this year than any prior year (13 for Teacher of the Year and 9 for Friend of Education)!

1st graders had a visit from an entomologist who came to teach them more about insects! They got to see and hold real live hissing cockroaches and got to see meal worms, pupae and beetles!

6th Grade Advisory students tested their knowledge in a fun game of Family Feud. Students had a blast demonstrating their knowledge in a fun and creative environment.

We want to give a huge thank you to Pride in the Tiger Foundation for our SRA reading labs. This reading intervention is such a great resource. Our MMS 5th and 6th grade students are so excited to dive into all of the new stories that will help expand their reading comprehension, word recognition, and vocabulary expansion. Thank you PITF for supporting our student learning and helping them be successful!

MMS students and staff were excited to hear from Superintendent Jeremy Williams and the rest of the Marshall Rotary Club as they presented our 6th grade rotary essay winners with their awards. Students worked hard to answer the four questions presented by rotary "Is it the Truth?, Is it Fair?, Is it Beneficial to All?, Will it Build Goodwill and Better Friendships?" and apply them to their lives. There were so many great essays to choose from and our three winners 1st – Hailey Tallam, 2nd – Maria Jose, and 3rd – Kelsey Cowden were honored to be selected.
